Donald Trump grumbled that he’s unable to “go after” the members of the House select committee that investigated the events surrounding the January 6 riots because of Joe Biden’s preemptive pardon, which the former president said he issued to prevent his successor from prosecuting them.

Besides raging about his inability to exact retribution on the lawmakers who probed the attempted insurrection and his role in inciting the rioters, Trump also patted himself on the back for pardoning most of those convicted of crimes related to the Capitol attack.

And people criticized this as paranoid and wrong when Biden did it…

Trump just blurts it out. No eyebrows even raised. Again, just imagine the outrage of Biden sat in that chair and said the same things.

If Obama did it, I’m positive we would have sitting congressional members calling for his execution for treason publicly.

Which is weird, given that he’s already ignoring the Constitution with regards to due process, that he wouldn’t just ignore it even more regarding pardons.

No see, this makes sense. If this administration is ever going to end, you know his last action will be pardoning everyone, and he doesn’t want the precedent of pardons being ignored.

I don’t disagree, but are they acting like they think they’ll never be out of power again?

I think its strategic. Similar to the poem “first they came for X, and I did not speak because I was not X”.

You deal with the lowest protected on the rung and move up. They dealt with non-citizens. Now they move to rural american citizens. He’ll get to them if we give him enough time to.

This is why rights have to apply to everyone. As soon as rights only apply to one group of people, no one has rights; they have privileges.

As terrible as the pardon power is and how easily abused it is, Biden was right to do it. Man this country is fucked.

Next Trump will start using SovCit bullshit to claim that Biden had a flag with the wrong kind of fringe in his office when he signed the pardons, so the whole process was invalidated.

You actually think he reads the shit he “signs”? Never mind load the things into a complicated, precision machine?

Naw. Somebody “does it for him on his behalf”

He’ll go after their loved ones to get at them. He’s a moron, but not everyone in his sphere is. Plus, they have playbooks from other fascists to follow. They’ll figure this tactic out.

They’re all about to “accidently” get swept up in an ICE raid and end up on a plane to El Salvador in the middle of the night.

The fact that he is saying that he can’t “go after” them is probably a good thing until someone reminds him that he’s literally king and can do whatever he wants.

That person is Stephen Miller. The way he talks is as if Trump has no limitations at all on anything, and Trump behind him looks as if Stephen calls all the shots.
