1000mm? sounds expensive, unless f/11 with cheap glass and plastic barrel, but picture clarity says would be otherwise
40-50 year old soviet mirror lens, 70euros used, build like a tank, probably was a tank optic once lol
i see, those can be built compact with little glass, a bit quirky with their ring highlights, but that’s your thing, that’s another plus
i dont mind the ring highlights, the only issue i have with that lens is that the focus ring is very sensitive, like turn it 5 Degree makes the difference between focusing 30m and focusing 500m away, but maybe that is due to my M42 to E-Mount adapter which basically acts like a tiny macro bellow changing the sensor distance 4cm away from where it should be. The lens has markings on the focus ring, 10m and 200m are 180 Degree away from each other on there, maybe i have to get a smaller adapter to get closer to those numbers…
Neat
Maksutov?
MC MTO-11CA
75 grand. jfc.
The perfect gift for the spy in your life.
Tripod required.
u can handheld point an shoot with this one too, just set the shutter speed to 1/8000 and crank the iso up to 60k
So… a 1m lens then?
probably a telephoto lens, so not actually physically as long as its focal distance
Well that’s just false advertising. 😠
I did the same math and was like op is rocking the jwst in his dugout
the jwst has a focal lengh of 131.4m not sure if they sell a E-Mount adapter for it tho
Haha well that’s just a little larger than yours.
I’m glad they let you take that photo from… your prison cell?
Joking, very impressed how clear that text is.
I didn’t read the title at first so I thought damn, that’s a tall prison.
I think I need a 1000mm lens now.
Berlin <3
This makes me wish I could get an aftermarket lens for the camera I bought a few months ago. Only issue is I presume this was probably shot with a professional camera and not an average “family photo” quality camera.
I think you’re very much underestimating your “family photo” camera. There’s lots of consumer grade cameras with lens systems available that will blow your mind
For someone who hasn’t owned a camera outside of a phone before, it is impressive, but I’m also admittedly a little jealous of stuff like this. All I got is a supposed 15x optical zoom and supposed 12.1 megapixel images.
in fact this picture was taken on a 12 Megapixel camera Sony A7s from 2014
Ach der schlne Humboldthain… die Treppenstufen da hoch waren Bestandteil meiner Joggingstrecke während des Studiums. 🙃
I’m sure this is some statement piece but idk who charité is
The Charité is the Hospital of the Humboldt University in Berlin. It is a big name in medical science in Germany. They even made a similar named tv series about the hospital. The building is the so called „Bettenhaus“ (Bed house), build between 1977 and 1982 in the former DDR (east Germany).
It was founded in 1709. Quite some medical history was written there.
found
*founded
What if they actually did find it?
Fixed.
If it’s a real question: A hospital in Berlin, Germany. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charité
Would it not be?
No zoom vs. max zoom, Google pixel 😘

Dude… the distance in OP‘s picture is just short of 3km. The distance in your picture is probably under 100m.
I think this message may be my most productive bait so far
i would love to see, but i blocked all google domains for privacy reasons.
You’re not missing much; it’s got that classic Google Camera upscale smearing
Yeah everything is wobbly (but usually legible). This was a 2 drinks in shit post rage bait tbh but I do still enjoy the phone camera 🤷
Block this
:) disclaimer, may not be full resolution originally shared
That’s not impressive by comparison.
Thank you for your service, I couldn’t be bothered debugging the image upload from boost so I gave up and shared via the convenient option 🤷 I know I’m supposed to hate Google more but I don’t have enough energy to decouple fully from the conveniences
Thats quite some zoom for a phone, i wonder tho if this would still work as well when the light isnt as bright
Looks like there’s a ton of upscaling going on. It’s the phone generating what’s probably there based on the little information it gets rather than an image of what’s actually there. It can be impressive, but there will also be many cases where it looks like an AI-generated image because for the most part it is.
Andrew, what’s gamecocks?
Who knows, it’s one of those sports things people are obsessed with over here in the US
For people without that phone, context why that’s silly. The Google Pixel 10 does have an impressive telephoto lens (for a phone) of about 110mm equivalence, although it’s nowhere near what we’re seeing here.
What’s not impressive is its gimmick: anything above 30x is actually AI enhanced up to 100x. The photo you shared likely used that enhanced feature to unblur, like text. You really really wanna piss off some people with this comment, lol.
It’s just the built in camera zoom; I was never suggesting it’s an alternative to a real camera lens but for a phone the results are still pretty impressive, even if they’re achieved with local AI or whatever
Actually they did put a real telephoto lens in it, which I think is a real zoom up to 5x? But yes, digital zoom is most things.
I bought a Huawei P30pro in 2016. Now I’ve got a Samsung S24 basic model. This is garbage in comparison, despite being almost a decade newer. The camera AI isn’t bad, and the video quality is great, but the optics are just fucking terrible.
My Huawei was actually useful and the I felt the camera was pretty adequate even for niche long term exposure shots that you’d normally definitely want a tripod and an SLR to take. Okay granted the stabilisation on the S24 is probably better for like hand held low light, but everything else is worse.
The Huawei had an optical 10x zoom (and up to 50x with digital but who cares about digital). Very impressive macro photos, I didn’t even need a loop to check the trichomes on my ganja.
Had to sacrifice a soul a little with prolly being on some Chinese spy lists now because of all the Huawei accounts I have but eh, it is what it is.
I was a tiny bit considering maybe getting the Pura 80 Ultra. It’s almost got a 10x zoom again. Idk why they went back on it. Too expensive to make? Honestly in the past 10 years not a lot of phones with that sort of zoom.
Yes, the optics on phones have a very non-linear curve over the decades, we’ve had great lenses predating Androids & iPhones.
All the dev goes into sensors & postprocessing (while the development of lenses is mostly in miniaturization).
And google drive…
