They have not felt the effects of the tariffs. None of us have, really. The supply chain shock hasn’t even started in earnest yet. Container ship traffic to west coast ports was up until recently as companies rushed to get stocked up but now, all the ones from China are being rerouted to other markets.

Even if Trump made a trade deal with China tomorrow, there’s going to be shortages of a lot of a lot of things later this year. That would just be like COVID. Container ships take time to cross the Pacific Ocean. And even if companies wanted to onshore production, that takes time. Building a factory takes years; even retrofitting an existing one takes time.

Just today, I read that Subaru is going to produce fewer cars in the U.S. and more in Japan to avoid raising prices in Canada and elsewhere. There’s just going to be layoffs and production moving overseas.

Subaru isnt an American company. We only care about American companies. Americans employed by foreign companies can get fucked I guess.

If they can’t see what’s right in front of them, why would we care about whatever it is they think they see in the future?

Because there are enough of them to win elections.

EDIT: Downvotes don’t change reality, people. There are enough people who support these efforts to sway elections. It’s why Republicans refuse to stand up to Trump in the first place – standing up to him is political suicide in many of these areas. You can continue to not care about their opinions, but all that will do is leave you wondering why you keep losing to them.

If you want to combat this, you need to figure out what they believe and why they believe it. Then you need to figure out which ones are just party-line MAGA to the end and are unreachable, and which ones have concerns that can be addressed and negotiated on, and try to work on those. But continuing to not care about their opinions while trying to force an agenda that they already said in 2024 that they don’t want is a great way to ensure that you keep losing.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. If you’re trying to win an election, and 51% of the people you need to vote for you are concerned about monkeys flying out of your ass, you had better come up with a plan to address the flying monkey problem. You can try to appeal to logic and reason by saying that there are obviously no monkeys flying out of your ass, but you’ll be doing it during your concession speech.

Check out millennial farmer on YouTube. Dude has been on weapons grade copium for a while and its hilarious to watch. Yes, tariffs on Canadian potash would have ended me, but I bought before the tarrifs. Yes, tarrifs on soybeans means its not profitable but I don’t have to sell right now. Yes, cutting subsidies that I was planning on using to pay for the multimillion facility I just built would ruin it, but I’ll figure it out.

Dude just keeps going this’ll be good long term, I voted for long term. Buddy, you’re already done.
