  • Do you actually think the same number of people would die under Biden or Harris? Assuming your comparison is entirely correct the conclusion implies a singular choice. Fighting the entire system can happen in every scenario. If voting for the lesser of two evils is able to reduce the harm to a few people or buy time to fight the system then that seems like the better choice. Mussolini only caused the deaths of thousands, not the millions Hitler did. Maybe at that level those are just statistics, each and every person between those numbers has friends and family that would disagree.

“While evil triumphs and your rigid ideals crumbles into blood stained dust the only victory afforded to you is that you stuck true to your guns”.

I despised Biden and Harris. Voting for them brought me no joy. However I can say that I am already seeing additional harm being done that was not before Trump won.

  • That’s the issue I have with a lot of talk about equity or equality even from people on the left. They will practically make it their entire identity, but then when faced with a scenario where they could improve the situation overall for the group at the cost of sacrificing or giving up some amount of privilege or prosperity they pull the latter up. Everyone is about equity and equality when they stand to gain, but they won’t go much out of their way to help things

Note: I am very liberal in a lot of my social beliefs and have a very strong sense of or drive to achieving equity, fairness, and justice. Which often results in making a lot of the people I mentioned above seem kinda phony to me.

My personal experience with this is that I am mildly on the spectrum. Most wouldn’t notice or guess it though due in part to the fact that I somehow managed to balloon animal a lot of the social interaction and language abilities to the problem solving analytical part of my skill set. What this means is that I am always having to “translate” what I’m thinking into normal people talk and normal people talk into how I think with every conversation and interaction.

I don’t even have much of an issue with that aspect perse. I know I’m the odd one out, and while not fair it’s understandable. What is frustrating is how little effort others seem to be willing to put forth. This obviously manifests in relationships the most acutely. I’m not usually even looking for 50/50. I’m more than willing to do the bulk of the work. All I want is for them to meet me somewhere on that bridge. Give me 80/20, 90/10, fuck I’ll take three or four steps onto the bridge, but no. Anything that requires they actively engage in thinking rather than doing everything off of vibes and they nope out so fast. I have had so many conversations where I essentially point out blatant inconsistencies between what they say they believe in (like equity or DEI) and what they actually want said either explicitly or through their actions and they inevitably end up saying something like “it’s just my preference”.

Having a preference doesn’t just absolve a person of hypocrisy, bigotry, racism, or any other belief that disenfranchises or puts down the marginalized and outcast.

  • I’m in the US, I voted against Trump, I’m likely going to suffer if he is able to accomplish a smidgen of what he has talked about, and I think we got what we deserved and the sentiment from your OP is valid. I know a lot of innocent people are going to suffer, but this is a country of very selfish people. Even some of the most liberal people I have met in this country still have a very selfish mindset and reason for the liberal bent. As soon as they attain a position where they have an advantage they basically pull up the ladder. I’m personally tired of it.

People are going to die, ecosystems are going to burn, countries may very well fall. My only hope is that things only get bad enough that the masses learn an important lesson that at least lasts for their generation and that recovery is possible in that time frame.

It’s not that I don’t care. It’s not even that I don’t have the fight left in me. I just don’t see any kind of path to a better place without substantial harm occurring first. I will not be happy to be right. I want to be wrong.

  • Just want to let you know that you aren’t alone. I have talked to a number of women who advocate for things like DEI and acceptance (which is something I also believe quite strongly in) but often default to preferring more traditional gender norms in dating. When pressed on the issue (not like I’m interrogating them just through normal conversations and getting to know them) they will inevitably say that it is ultimately “just their preference”.

What I find so odd about that “preference” is if a man behaves in accordance with the traditional/societal gender norms in the beginning of the courting process, why is it surprising that they do the same thing later in the relationship when it comes to sharing emotional labor or various types of household chores?

I know the below is taking it to a bit of an extreme example but that behavior and “preference” often reminds me the sentiment “the only moral abortion is my abortion”. Like I get it, there are a lot of shitty people out there who have no interest in putting in the effort, and they absolutely are not worth the time and effort, but when you do meet someone who is willing to put in that effort, it isn’t really fair to treat them like all those other people.

  • Your benefit of the doubt assumption is correct. He has explained it in detail a couple of times. Like you I find it unfortunate and frustrating.

Still, based on some of the numbers they have talked about their employee retention is very good and considering how talented many of the people who work for him are, if it were a shitty place to work that could likely easily find work elsewhere. I have a number of criticisms of Linus and his ADHD snap judgments or out of touch privileged takes, but he still strikes me as someone that does genuinely want to do the right thing that got insanely lucky and had to adapt to a crazy situation no random person off thee street would ever be that prepared before.
