I’ve learned French in school for 5 years, but I only speak it on a relatively basic level, despite living very close to France and crossing the border quite often. Not too big of a deal though, as many people in Alsace also speak a German/Alemannic dialect.

I’ve used it at work for the past 6 years and it’s just quite buggy. Sending an image only works around 50% of the time, calls go directly to voice mail despite the other person being there and waiting for my call, mobile app shows me being in a call I’ve left hours earlier, tabs with things like checklists never load etc. I’ve used worse programs, but it’s far from good. On a positive note though, the background noise filter in Teams is the best I’ve heard.
Signal works quite well for me. I use it with most of my family members, though for some people I still have to resort to Whatsapp.
No and no. I don’t think I’d want to subject my kids to where the world is headed. Also, too much of a long-term commitment that would significantly reduce my opportunities to do what I want, travel etc.
Tablet
Great for watching videos, reading the newspaper and drawing (with a digital pen).
I actually don’t have a laptop anymore, because I found that a tablet could do everything I needed on the go with less bulk, longer lasting battery and no fan noise.
Smartwatch
Tracks my heartrate (had some issues with elevated heart rate before), guilt-trips me into doing more excercise, shows me notifications without having to get my phone out, displays the time with a customizable watch face.
Not still, but again. Moved back when Covid hit and my company started to allow working from home. Honestly, I prefer it. Lived in a tiny city apartment, now I live in a large house in a village, with a garden and lots of nature around. The house would be too large and expensive for my mom to live there alone, so it makes sense for both of us.
Much of the world is moving in that direction. The many crises of recent years and an uncertain future outlook for humanity are fertile ground for extremists promising easy solutions and “going back to the good old days”.
I really enjoyed visiting Cimiteiro Monumentale in Milan. A historic cemetery with lots of lavishishly designed huge tombs. Very few tourists there and no scammers whatsoever.
Source? In Germany at least that’s not the case, it’s mainly the conservatives who push for it. In the original vote, only the greens clearly opposed it. Later on, SPD (center-left) and FDP (liberal) changed course to also oppose it. Couldn’t find results for other countries though, so I’m genuinely curious.
Either way they can just give it a new name and change some details to propose it again. Like how they made it “voluntary” this time (but you can only send text if you don’t agree).

Reading online comments and reading a book might technically be the same action, but trust me it’s really not comparable. Books are also a great way to practice English. It’s basically how I got to my level despite never having studied for tests.
Pirating books on a Kindle is trivial as well.

The expectations will probably be different between cultures but personally, nothing. It’s a gift after all, giving them money for it would make it a business transaction. Of course, when there’s an opportunity, I’d give out some food or drinks to my friends as well.
