In the 00s there were these special walkie-talkies that would set up an independent mesh network to communicate without cell service or internet connectivity. That was more peer to peer than federation, I guess, but it’s a pretty cool invention that was only used to send messages between Barbie coloured pieces of plastic.

Meshtastic is trying to do something similar right now, I’m not sure how much Barbie colored plastic is involved though. I wonder what kind of tech those were using, I’ve never heard of it before and Google isn’t being helpful.

… Wait, are you taking about Cybiko? I wanted one of those when I was a kid even though I didn’t know anyone who had one and didn’t live somewhere with the density to really use the tech.

You’re right, it’s 1. I went ahead and pinned it. I ran rpm-ostree update and it’s still not working, I’ll keep using the working deployment for the weekend and I’ll have more time to troubleshoot Monday and Tuesday.

At least I understand what the kernel panic message means thanks to the people here.

Ostree: 0 caused the kernel panic, but in grub I selected ostree: 1 (I rolled back to a previous update) and was able to get to the desktop like expected. Boot is the wrong term, sorry.

There’s not, it’s too new. There’s some stuff Fire toolkit could do but it’s severely limited on newer Fire tablets.

I’ve got a 2021 Kindle Fire HD 10 tablet and I’m sick of Amazon’s crap. I mostly use it for watching YouTube, any recommendations for a ~$150 (non-Samsung) tablet the same size or bigger with a headphone jack? Willing to buy used.

In addition to what everyone else has said, I think it’s also from ideas of “return to tradition” and a veneration of a kind of rural lifestyle that largely doesn’t exist anymore. My extended family are farmers and even they got out of livestock when I was really young because there’s not enough profit except at obscene scale. But milk fresh from the cow was a thing I grew up hearing about from cousins, it was apparently viewed as safe enough for the older kids as long as you cleaned the teat and it was really really fresh. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the conditions in factory farms added another layer of risk that just wasn’t there in the 90s on the last remaining family farms.

Edit: also some of them are operating under the mistaken idea that raw milk is healthier or more nutritious (it’s not), or that or tastes better (actually possible, I actually heard it tasted slightly better as a kid).

And slightly drunk after drinking the Absolut. I’m a serious lightweight, but I’m not enough of a lightweight to think this plan is a good idea after 100 ml of vodka.

I’m running Bazzite on a laptop with an Nvidia GPU. Steam Big Picture mode still doesn’t consistently work on Nvidia. It’s not a big deal imo, and I can’t think of anything else that’s still broken on Nvidia, but AMD is right there and it’s worth supporting them just because of less bullshit. Also RGB compatibility with openrgb can be hit or miss on consumer laptops (ugh, Acer).
