the mods of r/autism banned me for repeatedly calling them out on their bullshit bc they wouldn’t address it. It’s incredible, no matter the neurotype, mods are always the same hypocritical powertripped manchildren who never take accountability bc they think they are god for managing a subreddit. I pity them really, and i can proudly say that for all that is worth, that even if i have my problems at least I’m not one of those pathetic slobs.
thank you, i’ll submit the story tomorrow
Sounds like you’ll find more community here on Lemmy.
We’re a smaller, odder bunch, but in the more reminiscent style of older form posts.
I really like the sphere here. I ditched Reddit awhile ago for the Fediverse and haven’t looked back since.
i don’t like the idea of a community that big setting a precedent like this. Then ofc I’m staying here bc it’s much better, but i feel like this is a big problem, bc ppl are more prone to flock to that cesspool and thus getting exposed to autismspeaks propaganda and redditors. Im gonna take my benzos bc I’m really agitated about this
The unfortunate reality that I’ve come to cope with, is that there’s only so much you can do to attempt to convince people of something contrary to beliefs integrated within their identities.
Cognitive dissonance is a difficult battle to wage, but it is fruitless persuade those unwilling to be convinced that a large community easily indexed on the first page of the most ubiquitously used search engines is not the best solution to find community.
It is an unfortunate truth, but it will reduce the harm in your life to distance yourself from these types of group think communities.
I would prefer to be downvoted and engage in good faith discussion with a smaller group of individuals and possibly have my own beliefs evolve than stay in a corporate environment.
yeah also no entitled mods here so that’s a plus
I’m entitled! I just don’t know what I am entitled to.
Free air and sincere thanks for fostering our lil community 😄
Back in my day, all gas stations had an air hose coiled up around the side of the building for anyone to use, no charge. Now you gotta dump handfuls of quarters into a machine. :shakes_fist_at_clouds:
lots of cattle
What was the BS?
letting people share autismspeaks funded articles without repercussion, not only is it against the rules but also damages autistic people, and i couldn’t let that slide
Yeah alright. Their mods are bad people. Never been there myself but that’s blatant.
I’ve dealt with similar upsets watching smaller negative utilitarian related subs get taken over by hate groups, which nobody seems to mind despite the actual philosophies stemming from empathy.
In that case: Thank you for speaking up and good riddance. A shame they’re not taking their position seriously and do what they’re supposed to do: Abide by the rules and making sure all participants do so, too. There’s real harm coming from letting autism speaks propaganda stand like that.
What’s the issue with Autism Speaks? I know I saw something negative about it a while back, but I never read into it. I haven’t been keeping up with much negative shit lately because there’s too much negative shit to keep up with.
Eugenicist community that treats autism like a plague that ruins the lives of parents and everyone the autistic person comes into contact with.
Speaks over actual autistic people in favor of a “cure” instead of treating autistic people like, well, people. The Autistic Self-Advocacy Network (ASAN) is a much better foundation.
Just like with any marginalized/disability oriented community: “Nothing about us without us.” Autism Speaks violates that rule aggressively.
