Sure, I saw that, too. This is Linus saying he won’t play that.

Sure, piss off your intelligence agencies, that never ends badly.
I’m thinking bots/troll farms could have something to do with it. I’m on .ee, and we federate with .ml. I’ve been on Lemmy for about two years and just saw the first post I ever felt the need to report, had huge nazi energy against trans people on fucking .ml. That suggests to me that it was either a deliberate troll or someone didn’t know what the fuck they were doing.
It got handled promptly, btw, good job mod team!
FTA: "However, I will say that the social media brigading just makes me not want to have anything at all to do with your approach.
"Because if we have issues in the kernel development model, then social media sure as hell isn’t the solution. The same way it sure as hell wasn’t the solution to politics.
“Technical patches and discussions matter. Social media brigading - no thank you.” -Linus
Yeah, I have to issue an unqualified agreement here. Linus isn’t saying no to Rust, he’s smackin’ that ass for bringing drama out into social media instead of working through it in normal technical discussion channels.
Was thinking this this morning. They don’t need to stand around and whine with 40 congress people in front of the DOE, they need to call up David Hogg (new DNC vice chair btw) and get 40,000 of his closest friends to show up and raise a goddamn ruckus.
Ah, I thought I had seen elsewhere that they didn’t. Good.
This might go very badly for Canada. I want it to go badly for the US, but let’s try to be real here for a second. Doesn’t a very, very large proportion of Canada live in like five cities? The USAF could have that paved in an afternoon, more or less by itself.
Edit: somebody pointed out that Canada has nukes. That could definitely change the equation.
Edit 2 edit boogaloo: unclear if Canada has nukes, citation needed. De-striking until I can find some proof.
Trudeau needs to take this shit serious and start looking into bringing EU and Aussie troops/armor/air defence over for long term “training exercises”. If you’re Canadian and reading this, you need to be preparing. Get out of the city if you can; if not, start preparing a bug out bag, keep your gas tank over half full, and start preparing enough supplies to shelter in place for at least three days for however many people are in your household. Count on losing power, water, gas, and other utilities. If you have a gun, make sure you know how to aim it, use it, clean it, clear any jams, etc. before you need it. If you don’t have a gun, give some real thought to it; ask yourself what Vasily Zaitsev would do. I hope it doesn’t come to this; I want to apologize that this is happening, though I know it’s not worth the pixels it’s printed on.
I have hope that it won’t happen. Most USians have a very positive view of Canada, and this anti-canadian rhetoric is way, way, way out of left field for a wide majority of us. I can’t see any but a very small minority of people thinking this is good. I have a small hope that our military will make the right choice if the time comes.
Time to move to pirate radio, looks like.
This is exactly what we don’t need. Another 9/11 like attack could unify all of our politicians (and probably much of the population) behind Trump, which would end up being very bad for everyone. We’ve just arrived at a point where glassing the middle east with nuclear weapons is no longer a common talking point. Please, for fuck’s sake, just sit back and let the federal government implode.
I’m on the progressive left (actually, left libertarian, but they represent me best out of all mainstream options). At best, it’s treated as a social nicety that we ought to offer each other, because it’s perfectly reasonable to expect functioning adults in a society to be polite. It’s hardly a meat and bone issue for me, and I think you’ll also find that to be true for actual progressive left politicians like Bernie and AOC. Much of the progressive left, despite what Fox or OAN is telling you, is focused on actually fixing economic issues that impact everyone, like the outrageous cost of healthcare.
Cocaine, like, regular chemical cocaine, is also used as a vasopressor (think Epinephrine) in Europe.
I’m here for it, if they earn it. I love players having OP bullshit magic, but it’s no fun unless they work for it. Changing magic artifacts isn’t easy; everything about them is intrinsic to how they work. This is why wizards are useless without their cookbooks detailing every little step, and sorcerers always get weird side effects with their “fuck it, we ball” casting. This is where you tell the players that they’re going to need to return to the forge that cast the ring, or find a way to get help from someone high up in the jeweler’s guild or something like that. Sure, you could always try to DIY your magic canon, but you’re basically doing fantasy electrical engineering with vibes and a screwdriver; ask yourself, what could go wrong?
Not really, no. It’s true that you aren’t going to be sniping anyone with a shotgun, and it’s also dependent on the shot you’re using, but shotguns are used to hit ducks in flight, turkey, and deer (among others), which are all usually going to be a bit further away than your average hallway. Generally, birdshot is worthless for people outside of very close range; I once ran a call where someone got shot with birdshot from across the street and they might as well have been hit point blank with an airsoft gun. If that had been buckshot or a slug, they would have been completely fried. The tradeoff that you do with shot is that a finer shot will have a wider and denser cloud of projectiles, but each of those projectiles has less mass (and therefore momentum) for penetrating power. Buckshot is basically throwing a handful of (smaller) old school ball shot at whatever you’re pointing at, and whatever you hit is going to have a bad time. I personally prefer the heavier 000 (triple-ought) buck to 00 (double-ought) buckshot, but either works great. A slug is going to have the best range and penetrating power; at close range, a slug will defeat any non-ceramic body armor, and people wearing ceramic are still going to be very unhappy. Of course, a slug also requires the best aim, because it’s just one solid chunk of metal. in either case, I would say that shotguns with buckshot and slugs are entirely appropriate for personal defense in or out of the home, and urban combat.
OTOH, there’s a lot of Bernie-Trump voters. People don’t want business as usual, and that’s all the democrats really want to offer.
Thanks for the context. I was never interested in owning an AR myself, not to mention that it seems to me like they’re way overpriced due to a lot of them being glam guns. He did it for a living for years, so I took him at his word.
The only things that ever slowed the Nazis down was Russian winters and getting shot, and we’re all out of Russian winters.
I have a buddy who did gun repairs, he fucking hates AR-15s. If you want a gun that ticks all the boxes, get a 12 gauge shotgun. It’s a cheap, widely available platform that has cheap and widely available ammo, it just fucking works, it’s easy to care for, easy to use, pretty standard maintenance, and will kill what you need it to. They’re lethal much further out than video games imply, because otherwise they’d completely wreck the balance of the game.
Edit: I asked him for his specific beef with ARs, this was his response.
They’re a bitch to clean. There’s lots of places that need to be cleaned that can’t be reached easily, tons of little pockets and grooves you can’t get into; requires a dental pick, star shaped cleaning patches, and a shit load of cotton swabs to get through.
If it’s locked up, you can’t knock on the charging handle or emergency kick the charging handle to clear it. You will not be able to field strip this rifle if it’s jammed out of battery.
Aluminum gas blocks are apparently very popular, and they will corrode to failure at the gas tube port.
The extractor pin will often shatter in place, which causes intermittent failure while not looking wrong unless you know what you’re looking for.
Yeah, I don’t blame him for being frustrated. I definitely empathize with him here. I don’t know about the culture around committing to the kernal, but maybe it would be better to fork and make the case with action?
