Star Trek style communism requires a radically different approach to material scarcity. Current economic policy is to exploit and promote it, whereas in the Federation utopian ideal it would require that we attempt to solve scarcity. Provide for those who need, instead of exploiting that need for maximum profit.

The ethics of it are dubious because every time you see someone transport they are being literally killed in front of your eyes and a new copy created elsewhere.
They “nuh-uh’d” this in Enterprise. The inventor of the technology is introduced and basically says the people who propagate that theory are a constant thorn in his side, despite having no basis for it in the reality of that universe.
They also show people experiencing, and reacting to other things in, the matter streams during longer transports. Kind of hard to do if you’re dead.
I’d say it has to do with increased support of controllers. It used to be really hit or miss whether a controller would even work on the computer, much less with games.
Maybe if we focused a little less on corporal punishment and more on education, we’d have a hell of a lot less pruning to do.

You wouldn’t get social pressures as a kid? It definitely speaks a lot to an adults sensibility of stress and anxiety, but it’s not like kids never struggle to fit in. Especially when there are major changes in their lives.

There are more tools than ever to find community online, much less in cooperative games. Just because people don’t feel forced to play with you doesn’t mean you can’t find people who want to play with you.
