TrippyFocus@lemmy.mlto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•Welcome to Lemmygrad fellow Deprogrammers0·26 days agoLemmy.ml is the instance used by the developers of Lemmy to test patches but otherwise works like any instances and you don’t need to be one to join (I’m not).
Dessalines is the main/original developer and you can read a lot of their political views on their GitHub page but to give you a quick answer yes they are Marxist!
TrippyFocus@lemmy.mlto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•It‘s true! You can ask the embassy for a copy7·6 months agoIt’s more that I would like to move there but the strict drug policy on weed would be problematic for my wife and I. That’s why I said I hope it would change in the future.
Obviously the majority of people there currently do not want that and I respect that so I don’t expect them to change based on my personal preferences or anything like that and would not do anything like that while there visiting.
TrippyFocus@lemmy.mlto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•It‘s true! You can ask the embassy for a copy7·6 months agoI’m well aware of the history and effect the Opium and other hard drugs have had on China and understand why that’s lead to their current policy.
I was talking about weed specifically with my comment but should have been clearer.
Edit: Also again I’m not expecting them to change policies just for my personal preferences, the majority of people there support the policy so I respect that
TrippyFocus@lemmy.mlto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•It‘s true! You can ask the embassy for a copy182·6 months agoThey do have very strict laws regarding drugs largely due to the historical problems they had.
It’s definitely something I hope changes in the future but unfortunately don’t think it’ll be for a while based on talks I’ve had with even young people there.

In some cases, Kvaal said, defaults can negatively impact credit scores and future student aid, and several states revoke driver’s licenses over defaults.
Wish there was a list of states in the article because that’s just terrible policy. Revoking drivers licenses in a country with terrible to non existent public transportation basically means you’re guaranteeing they won’t have the income to pay you back.
Guess cruelty is the point tho.

Incredibly, it appears the Trump regime has imposed a 10% tariff on goods coming from the Heard and McDonald Islands, an Australian territory which lies in between Madagascar and Antarctica. Why is that incredible? Because the Heard and McDonald Islands are uninhabited.

Heartbreaking, the fact that Israel continues to murder journalists and civilians with no restraint while the world just stands by thanks to Amerikkka backing them is infuriating.

It shouldn’t be a grid, but circles as elements are organized in octaves and hertz.44·7 months agoPseudoscience is always going to attract people who want to feel like they know more than others without putting in a lot of work on studying things.
Terrance Howard also believes 1x1=2 so wouldn’t put a ton of stock into his other theories but haven’t heard of this one specifically. Like the other commentator said if he at some point shows concrete evidence I’m happy to admit I’m wrong but he hasn’t had that for his other stuff so I’m doubtful.

Even if a federal judge rules against Trump he can appeal it all the way to the Supreme Court and we’ve already seen they’re willing to throw out both prior rulings (Roe v Wade) and just allow baseless shit (Student Loan rejection).
Then another point is going to be even if the Supreme Court feels they’re pushing their luck and strike something down at a certain point who’s going to enforce the courts ruling? Rulings don’t matter much if they can’t be enforced…
“Net Zero” was often bs anyway with the legitimacy of some of the carbon credits anyway
I think having this post isn’t a great idea because you are just assuming the websites bias are legit. At the very least there needs to be a lot of warnings in the bots post about the websites biases and the methodology they use so the reader can come to their own conclusion.
Just looking over the methodlogy it’s clear that it has it’s own biases:
American Bias
The website itself says it’s distinctions of left and right are US based which is very skewed from the rest of the world. There should be a disclaimer or it shouldn’t be used in any world news communities.
Centrist Bias
The website follows the idea of “enlightened centrism” since if it determines a website has a left/right lean (again arbitrary) it affects the factual ratings of the sources.
Examples of this are: FAIR only getting the 2nd highest rating despite never having failed a fact check.
Despite my personal opinions on the pointlessness of using a US based left/right bias criteria I’d feel better if it was at least kept it it’s own section but when you allow it to affect the factual rating of the source it’s just outright wrong. The factual accuracy of the website should be the sole thing that affects this rating.
Questionable Fact Checking
Even just checking some of their ratings raises doubts on the websites credibility.
The ADL is rated as high (2nd highest) and wasn’t found to fail any fact checks.
“Wikipedia’s editors declared that the Anti-Defamation League cannot be trusted to give reliable information on the Israel-Palestine conflict, and they overwhelmingly said the ADL is an unreliable source on antisemitism.”
Maybe Wikipedia editors are a good arbiter of truth and maybe they aren’t but as people can see there isn’t a consensus and so by choosing Media Bias/Fact Check you’re explicitly choosing to align your “truth” with this websites biases.
I use voyager which I know is available on iOS. There’s a lot of android options as well.

TrippyFocus@lemmy.mlto Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•Biden Administration to Announce First National Heat Protections for Workers12·1 year agoThe proposed regulation from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration would for the first time require employers to monitor workers and provide rest areas and water when the heat index reaches 80 degrees or higher. Employers would also be required to establish heat safety plans. The rule could apply to about 35 million Americans who work both indoors and outdoors, senior administration officials said in a call with reporters on Monday.
Looks like it’ll be handled as OSHA regulations so that should actually get implemented, great to see since it’s only going to get hotter.
Citations Needed is a good media criticism podcast. They breakdown a lot of the talking points mainstream media uses for various topics and show how they’re wrong and why they are twisting narratives. They do have citations in the show notes too which is nice.
Blowback is another good one. They have a bit of a different setup in that each season they focus on a conflict the US was involved in and cover what actually happened. Their seasons on the Cuban revolution and Korean War were especially good.
Proles Pod I just started to listen to recently as I had heard their mini series on Stalin was good. I’m still early into that mini series so can’t say too much more.
