My son always says i love you to his family and friends when leaving or ending a phone call. Then he started dating one of his friends and he felt like he had to stop saying it so she didn’t think he meant he loved her. Our parents and my grandma helped us so much with everything - getting us groceries, babysitting, taking vacations together, and just helping us out of jams. We had our kids young and without the help from our families we would not be where we are. We help our kids. It’s hard to know what the right amount is- it’s hard to see them struggle, but surviving difficult times builds confidence and resilience and faith in your partner.

I’ve always thought of America as a teenager - we’re sophomoric, rebellious, and self- centered. We don’t have the history of most other countries. Our settlement and the beginnings of our government are really not long ago and most of us are just a few generations deep. I’m thankful for my life here and appreciate the struggles my family endured to make life better for the next generation.
