  • BOI is there because it popularized Rogue Lites, or basically games with procedurally generated maps and permadeath, with some upgrades and unlocks that persist through your runs. It’s been a huge genre in the past decade ish, especially among indie games.

Battle Royale isn’t just the shrinking map, it’s also the massive player count and free for all nature where everyone starts with almost nothing and gets weapons as they find them. PUBG also got its lunch eaten by Fortnite, which popularized the battle pass, but that’s a monetization innovation moreso than gameplay.

Bullet Heaven is one that’s new enough that there aren’t that many games in the genre, but it’s basically a Rogue Lite where your main verb is moving and picking skills when you level up. Basically you’re picking skills to keep huge waves of enemies away from you for a set amount of time.

Point being, most of the innovation is in smaller indie projects. I’d look there if you want interesting ideas. The big dogs you asked about are either still around and so successful at what they do that they take up all the air in the room or their entire genre crumbled around them and morphed into something else.

And Minecraft is the only new thing you mentioned. Dune 2 was made by the same company as C&C and came out three years before, while WOW is something like the 5th big MMORPG, after ultima Online, Everquest, Final Fantasy 11, and EQ2. I’m also not confident that Minecraft is totally original, but it’s probably the most original of that selection.

  • Because C&C (along with the RTS genre in general) was killed and everyone interested in that genre either started playing DOTA or LOL, or the surviving hybrid genre games like Total War, WOW absorbed all the features of its competition except for what it couldn’t (good music and writing), so it’s living alongside its main competition, FFXIV, and Minecraft is just a multiplayer sandbox that is still incredibly popular and developers have been working on and releasing features for it for its entire lifetime. It is its own sequel a few times over. The big innovative games between now and Minecraft are probably Binding of Isaac for rogue lites, PUBG introducing the Battle Royale genre, Vampire Survivors for inventing Bullet Heaven.

  • I had seen a post here a few days ago where they hired a third party to go over the allegations that Madison made, and they were essentially cleared however long after, but were also told that they still need to work on reporting and hr stuff. Which to me indicates that there was probably no documentation made if they did happen, so it would be impossible to audit like two years later, because being ignored when she told someone about the sexual harassment was one of her complaints. However, maybe you trust a neutral third party because taking the side of the company every time means their reputation for neutrality would be worthless, which means their business is dead. But in LTT’s statement they made it clear that while they did believe there was enough in their report to justify a defamation case, they just want to leave it behind them. Great stuff to include in your statement /s.

  • No, see, the spoiler effect, a well-documented phenomenon, isn’t real and is just a lie to keep people from voting for third parties, who are super for real going to affect anything positively this time! It’s your fault for not abandoning the only party with a chance to win against the fascist party in favor of checks notes Cornel West, a candidate so unserious he declared his party affiliation with the People’s Party (a bunch of definitely not grifters featuring such intellectual titans as Jimmy Dore and Jesse “the Body/Mind” Ventura) only to immediately switch to the Green Party, only to immediately switch to Independent. Math isn’t real and I’m very smart.

  • An AI (in its current form) isn’t a person drawing inspiration from the world around it, it’s a program made by people with inputs chosen by those people. If those people didn’t ask permission to use other people’s licensed work for their product, then they are plagiarising that work, and they should be subject to the same penalties that, for example, a game company using stolen art in their game should face. An AI doesn’t become inspired, it copies existing things to predict what it thinks its user wants to see. If we produce a real thinking AI at some point in the future, one with self determination and whatnot, the story will be different, but for now it isn’t.

  • So I say that you’re proposing to throw away trans lives for the principle of the thing, and your response is that Dems might throw away trans lives for some kind of ephemeral opportunity that hasn’t come around in the last ~15 years or so. If, and I do mean if, they did throw away trans lives for whatever it is you’re fear mongering about here, at least that’s more than the nothing we’d get under your plan of “split the vote to make sure Rs win, then the DNC would learn something for the next election that will be canceled by the Rs.” Even in your defense you laid out the question is would I rather have something or nothing? I’d rather have something. And I don’t think they would either way.
