As a non-American looking in from the outside, from what I can gather in progressive online spaces, people are sick of career politicians in general that don’t have any actual morals but are instead driven by marketing and advertising. This is a problem not just with the US Democrats but with the old guard in general worldwide.

That’s part of why the door has been opened to right wing lunatics in the first place. Around 10 years ago, a lot of people thought Donald Trump was the “anti establishment” pick. As insane as that is to reasonably well educated people, simple people with shitty lives believed that this upstart really would “drain the swamp”.

It’s also part of why the career politicians aren’t doing much to stop it either. They see the numbers on their marketing graphs, so they’re evolving into another stage of parasite that can feed on the new generation.

There’s no doubt in my mind that it would be a tougher battle for a woman than for a man in the USA. But also, they would stand a much better chance with someone like AOC than someone like Clinton or Obama or Harris. Because people are fucking sick of corporate undead ghouls whose sole purpose is to keep the Overton window in place.

I know that someone here is going to call AOC a sellout or something but come on, your anarchist socialist utopia is even further away now that the christo-fascists have undone so much progress. AOC is a thousand times better than almost anything else you’ve got right now.

You need more women with AOC and Jasmine Crockett energy, and less with Joe Biden energy. Someone to knock these christo-fascist clowns the fuck out on the mic and on social media, and to inspire people. Yeah South Africa is unfortunately generally socially conservative. And susceptible to magaland conspiracies. And I hate to sound like I have one issue but very patriarchal, whether you’re Afrikaner or Zulu. So I’d say knee deep in the manosphere shit too, which goes hand in hand with magaland conspiracies anyway.

One example of the gender divide is currently for the month of November, a group called ‘Women for Change’ are running a social media campaign where people are changing their profile pics purple, and are planning a general strike in about a week, to draw attention to the fact that a woman is buried in South Africa every 2.5 hours, and that rape and femicide are a plague in this country. Seriously, from babies to 99 year old women, none are safe.

And so of course, certain men responded to this by starting their own bullshit where they’re changing their profile pictures green. At first I thought it had maybe something to do with farm murders and men trying to play the victim olympics but it’s even scummier and lower than that. They changed their profile pictures green to cry that they’re “ATMs” for women. I dunno, I just think that’s kinda fucking despicable.

In fairness, there are (usually white) conservative women in magaland too. But I’m not going to beat around the bush when I say that you don’t need a magnifying glass to see how lobsided the demographics are in this regard.

Interesting how even in the right wing world, the first ones to grow a spine and stop licking boots are women. Just an observation.

I mean, considering that this is a successful meme on two different platforms and that there are multiple comments giving their own examples, I would assume that it’s a behaviour that a lot of people come across, regardless of your personal experience.

Yeah, Bruce Wayne is an eccentric rich guy in a city full of eccentric rich people up to their own shenanigans. And depending on the timeline or continuity, he doesn’t even run his own company most of the time, so wouldn’t necessarily be in the public eye all the time.

For Clark Kent, I’ve always loved the idea of certain key figures in the Daily Planet figuring it out themselves but keeping it to themselves. In the new movie, I very much got the impression that Perry White and Jimmy Olsen know. And IMO, ever since Lois figured it out herself in My Adventures with Superman, that’s the way it always should be from now and the versions where Superman keeps the secret for years and years aren’t the same now.

For me, the ones where it gets difficult to justify their secret identities remaining intact for long are characters like Static or Spider-Man that still go to school and live with their parents / guardians, and regularly slip away during trouble to regularly rescue their friends and family as their superhero selves.

Depends on a few things, including the viewpoint in question.

And my patience at a particular time because I’m not 18 and just discovering the world anymore and a lot of shit is the same old shit, even if it’s had a ribbon tied around it.

Some things that I’m more or less out of patience with are bigotry, right wing conservative conformists and supremacists, and monotheism. But I’m open to discussing most other things.

I’d be more inclined to ‘meet in the middle’ politically if ‘politics’ were about say how taxes should be spent, and not about who should have more or less human rights than who.

I think that not necessarily everything in life is a big buddhist style learning moment and sometimes we really do just dig our own holes. And I mean, there’s nothing to say that the person in this simplistic cartoon strip didn’t learn anything here.
