I hate when people say “people are not ready for this conversation”, it just shows they are completely uninterested in any actual discussion about the matter. If anyone responds with any criticism, even if it’s very reasonable, they’ll just say “told you people weren’t ready for it lol”.

i think it’s partly because it’s often very easy for experts to overestimate what non-experts know, even people with some knowledge in the field (relevant xkcd as usual), so it’s probably easier to just dumb it down as much as you possibly can.
