McCarthy is only House Speaker by the skin of his teeth. No other Speaker in living memory has gone through so many challenges or so many votes to attain his position. Republican power in the House balances on a knife’s edge and they know it. So even though they hate her for doing this, they’re not going to do anything that might provoke her into siding with Democrats out of spite. Because when you’re that crazy, nothing is beyond the pale.
