Gotta at least ask the owner if it’s okay to pet their dog. Kinda rude if you don’t.
I did this while assuming the owner was gonna say yes and went in for a pet. When I heard a stern “NO” I felt immediate embarrassment and said sorry. Never again will make that mistake.
Last time I asked someone they said no because the dog had a tendency to nip at strangers, so I was just like “Fair enough” and moved on
i go to a dog park daily, and there seems to be an unwritten rule where this does not occur. people dont seem to talk unless prompted
