It’s actually the fact that the striker is only half cocked and there’s a firing pin block. Pulling the trigger takes the striker from half cock to full cock and lifts the firing pin block out of the way.
The trigger dingus is just part of the system but not the actual drop safe mechanism

Cops prefer this setup because they’re lazy cruel cowards that want as little between them and filling a kid with bullets as possible.
But they don’t fire accidentally.
The NYPD in particular uses custom-ordered glocks which require increased trigger pressure to fire.
I think they went back on that because they were too frustrated at not being able to jump straight to killing people quite as easily.
