Wondering if anyone here has used and what their experience has been. They do not appear in the lists of commonly hyped providers most of the time.
Normally I use FreeTaxUSA, but this year after entering most everything I found out it did not handle Estate state pass-through withholding.
So I spent yesterday on OLT entering everything again. They seem to handle more stuff at the cost of more complexity. Anyway got it all in this time. Still waiting for some final source documents but may file with OLT this year.
Anyway, wondering if anyone has done a full prep and filing with them and their experience. Thanks.
Yes. Same here. Used them for 2023 taxes because of estate issues. They do a lot more but you have to know what your doing and the result you want. Not as automatic as FTU. One warning I do have, at least for my state, I had to do some overrides as the defaults were misleading and in some cases just wrong. My experience was Federal was fine, state did not meet expectations though one can work around that.
Edit: By the way, FTU can have issues too where OLT seems to do it correctly and they may not.
Edit: I like both FTU and OLT but for different reasons. If FTU can do your taxes correcty than it is probably easier. Otherwise OLT can probably get the job done but less smoothly and with some intervetion at times.
I’ve used them for years. Most years I have W-2s from multiple states, they’re the only free e-file that covers all states (with income tax) last I checked (I think h&r block did briefly, but I don’t think they even do free file anymore). They also do my state’s renters rebate, which most other free file providers don’t. I did have some issues several times with it switching me to only paid options at the very end, but a message to support always fixed it.
Thanks.
