Valve gets a huge cut of all games sold on their platform. The least you could expect from them is to ensure the license to install and play a video game which you’ve bought from them won’t ruin your life.

Absurd comparison. I don’t pay anyone to install node packages.
Then what the fuck am I paying 30% of a game’s cost to valve for? This is a consumer right’s issue. I understand if you’d like to buy and run malware on your computer. Most people find that to be undesirable and would like some guarantee that malware isn’t included in the game where you’re forced to pay a middle man 30% of the cost.
